Ever since my youngest son received his very first LEGO set, we have been building together, and it has been a delightful experience to watch his love for LEGO grow along with his imagination.
I remember the first set he got was the LEGO Duplo My First Number Train. At the time, he was so little and his pudgy little hands would clap with excitement as he put the bricks together and raced the train across the floor. We would spend evenings together rebuilding it after a long day of playing with it, and my wife would use it to help him count. She would place each number back on the train, and he would proudly copy her, repeating the correct number.
It was amazing to see how he was able to learn fine motor skills and counting, all from one little toy. It was enlightening to watch him grow and play with his first set.
From that moment on, his imagination and love for LEGO was ignited. His uncle and papa passed down a large tote of LEGO pieces from when his uncle was little, and from there, his love of free building took off. It has been so much fun to watch his imagination come to life. He has created all sorts of things, from houses to flying cars to swords, and so many other creative and fun ideas. His love for building and creating has quickly grown.
In his six short years of life, he has gone from building a little Duplo train to building brick heads, speed cars, small technic sets, and free building some of the most creative sets I have ever had the joy of watching.
I am truly grateful to watch my son's love for building grow. It has been exciting to see his face light up with excitement with each new build. I hope he continues to be passionate about building and never loses that excitement, love, and passion for LEGO.
